UK Knanaya Centre or UKKCA Office or UKKCA Community Centre?

UKKCA elections are nearing and  both of the Presidential candidates have highlighted the importance of a permanent UKKCA center or willingness to purchase one, which is very  important for UK Knannaites. Although its for the national council to discuss and debate, being a General Secretary candidate, its my responsibility to share my thoughts, as this dream cannot be realised without you.

As an individual I love to see our UKKCA having an office or a community centre at any suitable and convenient location accessible to all UK Knannaites. Similarly, with the current situation in UK and other parts of the world, a permanent address would provide us an identity and recognition, all members are looking forward to  see it happen. Further,  an office or a permanent address  is very important for any organisation, an office is the nerve center for any business, whether it’s a profit making or non profit making.

In addition to the identity a  well-organised office has several other advantages, it makes it possible for the management to plan any programs/operations intelligently, to put its plans effectively, to follow up their current progress, to apprise the results without delay, and to co-ordinate all the activities of the organisation efficiently. Above all a UKKCA office would be an information center or a resource center for Knanaya culture, which will benefit all knannaites including youth, to improve their networking within the Knanaya community and other similar communities.

Along with the numerous advantages we must address our limitations or the associated risk associated with acquiring a property in UK.  I was part of the initial committee to conduct a feasibility study to  purchase an office  or community center for UKKCA in 2009 and collected various information.  

The eligibility conditions to purchase a property is same for an individual and for any organisation like UKKCA, they are as follows :

(a) Financial Stability : A mortgage is an important factor and most of the financial institutions contribute only 60 to 80% of the market value, with an affordable interest rate. For financial institutions, Credit Checking is an important mechanism to asses eligibility, which is similar to any personal loan or mortgage application.  Any individual with regular salary and a balanced expenditure could qualify, but one could imagine the outcome for a fourteen year old organisation without any bank balance and zero transfer, for the last six times and next transfer is not expected to be different.

In simple terms, to qualify for mortgage, an organisation should have steady income, higher growth rate and financial stability. If we want to achieve this in a short period of two to three years time, the only available option is member’s contribution through direct debit, otherwise on a longer term of 8 to 10 years, a regular yearly saving of minimum £10,000 each and every year.

(b) Income from operations : Many of the lending establishments will not accept this as majority of the existing UK community facilities are under-utilised, currently surviving with  Government or local Borough Councils support through subsidies and grants. Of course there are few exceptions where local community is strong and the managing committee is purely voluntary (without incurring any salary and subsistence costs).

(c) High Overhead costs : There are numerous hidden costs associated with operating a community facility, a few of them are :

(i) Council Tax : Being a registered charity and an active community organisation, we may be eligible to a reduced council tax or a nil tax for a limited period, but the situation is different when we let the premises to third parties to increase our income.

(ii) High insurance costs : Many of the mandatory insurance costs are very high, like building and content insurance (fire, loss and theft), Boiler maintenance and annual insurance, Insurance for volunteers and employees (if any), the compulsory Pubic Liability Insurance.

(iii) Cleaning Costs : To ensure health and safety regulations, prescribed standard level of cleanliness is compulsory. Employing a cleaner, especially for toilets and bathrooms is mandatory or have to be contracted with other cleaning companies or agencies, otherwise the facility will be declared not fit for re-use.

(iv) Major Repair and Maintenance costs : It’s very important to save at least 10% of the yearly income to cater for these accidental or unexpected costs. 

We are able to manage all of the above with our unity and commitment to our own Knanaya community, but we do need to test our ability and capacity to effectively manage this. As I mentioned in my previous post, UK Catholic community is very strong and have number of un-occupied premises which they are ready to lease out freely to us. I will write more details on this option and a previous example of their willingness to support us next week.

Externally Engaged UKKCA

UKKCA as an organisation represents UK Knannaites to the wider UK Community

All organisations have dual functionality, primarily to achieve the written objectives, which is  looking after  members welfare  and secondary to represent the members to other institutions and to the general public. UKKCA as an organisation is the face of UK Knannaites, a more vibrant and shining UKKCA will be reflecting UK Knannaites unity and successful living.  Whereas UKKCA’s current existence is limited to Knanaya circle, and to the Charity Commission, as this is a registered charity. Apart from that, very limited people and institution are aware of our organisation.

For an example, most of the Malayalee associations are registered with local Borough council, which is not only to access community grants but to be part of the governing structure.  The government machinery in UK consult its citizens on all governance matters, it runs various consultancies to obtain general public opinion and consensus. Registered and active community associations can work as an extended arm of that Borough, to reach the members or these associations can work as a medium to bridge the gap between the government and its citizens. Community association’s leaders are always consulted on administrative matters and invited to various locality development meetings, where many of the developmental agendas are discussed, to ensure community engagement and to keep the community informed.

Similarly, being a charitable community organisation with a large membership, we are eligible to be consulted on various matters affecting our routine life. UK government always promote community voluntary organisations, to use its networks to inform the members of government policies and activities. An example would be the recent NMC consultation on eligibility conditions for foreign registered nurses. With a large number of Nurses membership, UKKCA could have been an ideal organisation to effectively represent nurse's needs and interests.

Being a Christian charitable association, UKKCA could be representing the interests of our Knanaya community to the wider Christian establishments in UK, It’s very important to inform our presence as many of their decision could have positive and negative impacts on  our faith and status. We have the rights to live the way as we wish and the  existing Christian community will readily recognise us and accept our ideologies.

Being a Catholic association, UKKCA should be consulted on any matters affecting UK Catholics, especially in this current environment where so many regional and nondenominational churches trying to establish their own identity in UK.

Different Syro-Malabar dioceses have already established their status in UK and now claiming to be the leading groups at different parts of UK.  They already established a good relationship with the Catholic hierarchy and  its time for UK Knanaites to examine whether they are being appropriately represented at this level  Unless we let them know our presence, they wouldn’t contact us for any matters affecting our existence here. It’s time for us to meet up with all the following Major Archbishops in some form of regional conventions, not only to  inform our presence but  to present our needs :

(a) Province of Birmingham, including Archdiocese of Birmingham, Diocese of Clifton, Diocese of Shrewsbury

(b) Province of Cardiff, including Archdiocese of Cardiff , Diocese of Menevia, Diocese of Wrexham

(c) Province of Liverpool, including Archdiocese of Liverpool, Diocese of Hallam. Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Diocese of Lancaster. Diocese of Leeds. Diocese of Middlesbrough. Diocese of Salford

(d) Province of Southwark, including Archdiocese of Southwark, Diocese of Arundel and Brighton · Diocese of Plymouth, Diocese of Portsmouth

(e) Province of Westminster, including Archdiocese of Westminster, Diocese of Brentwood, Diocese of East Anglia, Diocese of Northampton, Diocese of Nottingham

(g) Scotland : Includes Two Archbishops and Six Bishops at different diocese

(h) Northern Ireland, Archdiocese of Armagh and all other diocese under it.

Engagged UKKCA

Knannaites have various means to keep their identity in this ever changing multicultural world, the most popular is their own centuries old amazing traditions, which the whole world praise and appreciate. It’s not just the high community value within these traditions, but the younger generations commitments and ability to inherit this.  Anytime Knannaites get together to celebrate or express their unity, you hear NaDa NaDA, NaDayo, which was initially to cheer the bride and bridegroom or to alert the wedding receptionists to complete their final preparations, but is now deep in our hearts, as we inherited it.  Thus it’s time for UKKCA to promote our Knanaya Fellowship to our younger generation using platforms like cultural competitions. By organising competitions for Margam Kali, Purathanappattu, Nadavilly and other specific Knanaya cultural identities will provide an opportunity for our younger generation to experience and inherit it.

Traditions are behaviors and actions that one engage in again and again, regular customs one perform at the same time and/or in the same way. Traditions can be big or small but they differ from routines and habits, but with a specific purpose in mind and require thought and intentionality. It’s said that “Traditions” when done right, lend a certain magic, spirit, and texture to our everyday life.

These are important to our community, which offer numerous benefits to families and individual members, to be known and identified as Kna :

(a) Provide of source of Identity : Traditions and customs often tell a story about a group or a memorable incident, it teach our children where their family originated and give them insights into their cultural or religious history. In a nutshell, traditions can serve as reminders or events that have shaped any community and families.

(b) Strengthen the community bond : Traditions provide an all-too-rare chance for face-to-face interaction, help community and families get to know and trust each other more intimately, and create a bond that comes from feeling that one is part of something unique and special.

(c) Offer comfort and security : Traditions and rituals are the antidote to the harried feeling that comes from our fast-paced and ever-changing world. It’s comforting to have a few constants in our life.

(d) Teach Values  : One of the main purposes of rituals, whether religious or secular, is to impart and reinforce values. The same goes with family traditions. Through daily family prayer, the importance of faith is re-enforced, through nightly bedtime stories, the value of education, reading, and life-long learning is initiated, and through regular interactions using varied activities, community traditions, customs and values are shared and promoted.

 (e) Add to the rhythm and seasonality of life :  Our world and the universe are composed of routine cycles big and small – sunrise and sunset, death and rebirth, winter, spring, summer, and fall, which controls our everyday life. But the memories and experience of happy community celebrations and times remain in our hearts forever.

(f) Pass on culture and religious heritage : Many community/family traditions have been passed down through multiple generations. Continuing them in your own community is a great way to teach your children about your community’s cultural and religious history, thus adding to their personal identity.

(g) Connect generations : Family is the basic component of human existence, which has an important role in any thriving and harmonious society. An individual develops his/her personality from their family, specifically by following or imitating their beloved people. Traditions and customs play an important role in developing the bond within the family, within every family members.

(h) Create lasting memories : Positive childhood memories can help make any child a happier and more generous adult. While social scientists used to consider nostalgia a sign of depression, recent research has shown that reflecting fondly on one’s past actually provides a myriad of positive benefits including counteracting loneliness, boosting generosity towards strangers, and staving off anxiety.

ഫ്രാന്‍സീസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പയുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ ശ്ലൈഹിക പ്രബോധനം പുറത്തുവന്നിരിക്കുകയാണ്. കത്തോലിക്കാനേതൃത്വത്തിന് പ്രസ്തുത പ്രബോധനം സഭയുടെ നവീകരണത്തിന് ഫലപ്രദമായി വിനിയോഗിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. സര്‍വ്വമാനരംഗത്തുനിന്നും ലാഭം മാത്രം ലക്ഷ്യം വയ്ക്കുന്ന മുതലാളിത്തത്തിന്റെ പുതിയ മുഖം പാപ്പ തുറന്നു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. സഭയുടെ സേവനമേഖലകളില്‍ അതിസമര്‍ത്ഥന്മാരായ വൈദികരെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ലാഭം നേടുകയും ലാഭത്തിന്റെ ചെറിയ ശതമാനം ചാരിറ്റിയായി വകകൊള്ളിക്കുകയും, കൊടുക്കുന്ന ചാരിറ്റി ഇഷ്ടക്കാര്‍ക്കു മാത്രമായി നല്‍കി അവരെ ഒരു ചരടില്‍ തളച്ചിടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന മുതലാളിത്തത്തിന്റെ പുതിയമുഖം പ്രാദേശിക സഭയുടെ പല ഘടകങ്ങളിലും ഇന്ന് കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. നന്നായി പണമുണ്ടാക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുന്നവരെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രിഗേഷനുകളുടെയും മറ്റും താക്കോല്‍ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളില്‍ നിയമിക്കുന്നു. വൈദികരുടെ സ്വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയ മധ്യസ്ഥനായ വിശുദ്ധ ജോണ്‍ വിയാനി അച്ചന്റെ പിന്‍ഗാമികള്‍ക്ക് ഒരിടത്തും സ്ഥാനമില്ലാതായിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇത് സഭയിലെ മുതലാളിത്തത്തിന്റെ ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ മുഖമാണ് പ്രകടമാക്കുന്നത്.

   

സഭയിലെ രാജകുമാരന്മാരായ കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളന്മാരെയും അവരുടെ പിന്നില്‍ നില്ക്കുന്ന മെത്രാന്മാരായ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും മാടമ്പിമാരായ വൈദികരെയുമൊക്കെ മനംതിരിച്ച് ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സഹനത്തിലും സ്‌നേഹത്തിലും ഭാഗഭാക്കുകളാക്കുകയെന്ന ദൗത്യം പുതിയ മാര്‍പാപ്പ ഏറ്റെടുത്തിരിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രബോധനങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും വ്യക്തമാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം പാപ്പാ സ്ഥാനം ഏറ്റെടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് വിശ്വാസികളെ ആശീര്‍വദിക്കാന്‍ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ അവിടെ കൂടിയിരുന്ന ലക്ഷകണക്കായ ജനങ്ങളുടെ മുന്നില്‍ കുനിഞ്ഞുനിന്ന് അവരില്‍നിന്നും ആദ്യം ആശീര്‍വാദം വാങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. അതിനുശേഷം ഇന്നുവരെ മാര്‍പാപ്പ പറഞ്ഞതെല്ലാം അധികാരശ്രേണിയിലുള്ള സഹപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരായ നേതാക്കളുടെ അറിവിലേക്കുള്ളതുമാത്രമാണ്. സുവിശേഷാധിഷ്ഠിതമായ ശൈലി സഭയില്‍ ഉണ്ടാകണമെന്നു പ്രബോധിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ സഭയില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഫ്യൂഡലിസത്തിന്റെ അലകളടിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നുതന്നെയാണ് മാര്‍പാപ്പ ചൂണ്ടികാണിക്കുന്നത്.

   

കമ്പോള സര്‍വ്വാധിപത്യത്തെ തള്ളിപറയുന്ന പാപ്പ കേരളകത്തോലിക്കാ നേതൃത്വത്തിനു നേരെയും വിരല്‍ ചൂണ്ടുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന് നമ്മള്‍ കാണണം. സാധാരണകാര്‍ക്കു കടന്നു ചെല്ലാനാകാത്ത തരം ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മീഡിയം സ്‌കൂളുകളും മറ്റ് ഹൈടക്ക് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ അനുബന്ധ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും ആരംഭിച്ച് പണമുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന സന്യാസീസന്യാസിനീ സഭകള്‍ കമ്പോള സര്‍വ്വാധിപത്യത്തിന്റ വക്താക്കളായിട്ടാണ് ഇവിടെ പെരുമാറുന്നത്. സ്‌നേഹവും സഹിഷ്ണുതയും ക്ഷമയും സുതാര്യതയും ലാളിത്യവും ഒക്കെ കൈവെടിഞ്ഞ ഇവരില്‍ പണത്തിന്റെ ഹുങ്കാണ് എല്ലായിടത്തും മുറ്റിനില്‍ക്കുന്നത്. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസകമ്പോളത്തില്‍ സ്വതന്ത്ര വിപണി നിലനിര്‍ത്തുവാന്‍ ന്യൂനപക്ഷാവകാശത്തെകൂടി ദുരുപയോഗിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ് ചില മാനേജുമെന്റുകള്‍. ഈ ദുര്‍മാതൃക കണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ക്രൈസ്തവേതര വിഭാഗങ്ങളും ഈ കമ്പോളത്തില്‍ കാലുറപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി സുവിശേഷ വയലില്‍ കലപ്പ പിടിക്കാന്‍ പോയവര്‍ അതില്‍ നിന്നും കൈവിട്ട് ലാഭേച്ഛയുടെ കപ്പലോടിക്കുകയാണ്. ധനസ്ഥാപന വ്യഗ്രതയാണെല്ലായിടത്തും. ക്രൂശിതനായ ക്രിസ്തു ഇവിടെ അപ്രസക്തനായിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവവിളി സ്വീകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പ്രതീക്ഷയോടെ ഈശോയുടെ ശിക്ഷ്യരാകാന്‍ വരുന്ന പിന്‍ഗാമികളുടെ വഴിമുടക്കുകകൂടിയാണ് സമ്പത്ത് കൂട്ടിവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സന്യാസികള്‍. അമിതമായ ഈ സമ്പത്ത് കണ്ട് അവിടെയ്ക്ക് ആകര്‍ഷിക്കുന്നവരും കൂടിവരുന്നു. സ്വതന്ത്ര വിപണി നല്‍കുന്ന സാമ്പത്തിക വളര്‍ച്ച താഴേക്ക് ഒലിച്ചിറങ്ങുകയില്ലന്ന് പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പാപ്പ പ്രവാചക ദൗത്യത്തോടെയാണ് സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്. പാപ്പായുടെ ശ്ലൈഹികപ്രബോധനം ക്രിസ്ത്യാനിറ്റിയെ കച്ചവടമാക്കുന്നവരുടെയും കണ്ണില്‍ എണ്ണ ഒഴിയ്ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

   

തെരുവിലിറങ്ങിയതിനാല്‍ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു അഴുക്കുപറ്റിയ സഭയെയാണ്, സ്വന്തം സുരക്ഷയെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചിരുന്നു ദുര്‍ബലമാകുന്ന സഭയെക്കാള്‍ താന്‍ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതെന്നു പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്ന പാപ്പ സഭയെ നവീകരിക്കാന്‍ നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ട അപ്പസ്‌തോലന്‍തന്നെ. സഭയെ നവീകരിക്കാന്‍ പുറപ്പെടുന്നവര്‍ ക്ഷീണിച്ച് അഴുക്കുപറ്റും ചിലപ്പോള്‍ മരണപ്പെടും എന്നത് ചരിത്ര വസ്തുതയാണ്. തെരുവിലേതിനെക്കാള്‍ അഴുക്ക് സഭയില്‍ തന്നെ ഉണ്ടിന്ന്. ജോണ്‍പോള്‍ ഒന്നാമന്റെ ആകസ്മിക മരണവും, ആര്‍ച്ച് ബിഷപ്പ് കാട്ടുമനയുടെ സംശയസ്പദമായ മരണവും, ഗോവയില്‍വെച്ച് പഴമാങ്ങ തിന്ന് പനിപിടിച്ചു മരിച്ചു എന്നു പറയുന്ന ജോസഫ് കരിയാറ്റി മെത്രാപോലീത്തായുടെ മരണവും ദുരൂഹമായി നിലനില്‍ക്കുകയാണ്. പ്രഗല്‍ഭനായ ബനഡിക്റ്റ് പതിനാറാമന്‍ പാപ്പയുടെ രാജി അത്ര സുഖമുള്ള വാര്‍ത്തയായല്ല പ്രചരിക്കുന്നത്. “പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുന്നവളേ” എന്നുള്ള യേശുവിന്റെ വാക്കുകള്‍ സഭയില്‍ ഇന്നും നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നുവോ? ഏതെങ്കിലുമൊരു വിശ്വാസിയോട് ഒരു മെത്രാനോ വൈദികനോ തോന്നുന്ന ഇഷ്ടക്കേട് അവരുടെ മരണം വരെ കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്ന യാഥാര്‍ത്ഥ്യവും ഇതിനോടു ചേര്‍ത്തുവായിക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്.

   

അമിതമായ കേന്ദ്രീകരണം സഭയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെയും പ്രേഷിത ദൗത്യത്തെയും സങ്കീര്‍ണ്ണമാക്കുന്നു എന്നും പാപ്പ എഴുതുന്നു. കേരളസഭയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം അധികാരകേന്ദ്രീകരണം വലിയ തോതിലുണ്ട്. സഭയുടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക കൗണ്‍സിലുകളിലെല്ലാം ഉപജാപസമര്‍ത്ഥരെയും ആര്‍ക്കും എതിരാവില്ലന്ന് ഉറപ്പുള്ളവരെയുമാണ് നിയമിക്കുന്നത്. ഏകാഭിപ്രായം ഉള്ള സംഘത്തില്‍നിന്നും പുതുതായതൊന്നും പുറത്തുവരില്ല. വ്യത്യസ്തമായ ആഭിപ്രായമുള്ളവരായിരിക്കണം രൂപതാസമിതികളില്‍ വരേണ്ടത് അവിടെനിന്നാണ് പുതിയ ആശയങ്ങള്‍ ഉരുത്തിരിയുന്നത്. മെത്രാന്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിനു മേല്‍ മറ്റൊരഭിപ്രായം പറയാതാകുമ്പോള്‍ അദ്ദേഹം വിചാരിക്കും എന്റെ അഭിപ്രായം തന്നെയാണ് എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും; കമ്മറ്റികൂടി വെറുതെ സമയം കളയുന്നതെന്തിന്? കമ്മിറ്റിക്കാര്‍ വിചാരിക്കുന്നത്, എന്തായാലും മെത്രാന്‍ പറയുന്നതേ നടപ്പിലാകു വെറുതെ മെനക്കെടുന്നതെന്തിന്? വല്ലതും പറഞ്ഞ് അപ്രീതി സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നതെന്തിന്? ഓരോ സമിതികളും പിരിയുമ്പോള്‍ മെത്രാന്‍ ഒന്നിന്നൊന്ന് ഏകാധിപതിയായി മാറുന്നു. മാര്‍ക്‌സിറ്റ് പാര്‍ട്ടിയുടെ പ്ലിനംപോലെ യോഗം തീരുമ്പോള്‍ നോതൃത്വം കൂടുതല്‍ ശക്തമാകുന്നു, കരുണ ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നു, യോഗക്കാര്‍ ദുര്‍ബലരാകുന്നു. സുവിശേഷം തരുന്ന സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യവും തുറവിയും ഒരിടത്തും കാണാനില്ല. വിശ്വാസികള്‍ യോഗം ചേര്‍ന്ന് അവിശ്വാസ പ്രമേയത്തിലൂടെ ഒരു മെത്രാനെ നീക്കാന്‍ കഴിയാതിരിക്കെ മെത്രാന് വിശ്വാസികളോട് തുറന്ന സമീപനം സ്വീകരിക്കാനാകാത്തതെന്താണെന്നോ, വിമര്‍ശനങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളാന്‍ ആകാത്തതെന്താണെന്നോ മനസിലാകുന്നില്ല.

സുവിശേഷത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയവുമായി നേരിട്ടു ബന്ധമില്ലാത്ത ആചാരാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളെ അവയ്ക്ക് എത്ര ആഴമായ ചരിത്ര പാരമ്പര്യമുണ്ടായാലും പുന:പരിശോധിക്കണമെന്നു പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പാപ്പായുടെ പ്രബോധനത്തിന്റെ വെളിച്ചത്തില്‍ കേരളത്തില്‍ നടക്കുന്ന ഭക്തിപ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെയൊക്കെ വിലയിരുത്തി നിയന്ത്രിക്കേണ്ടത് ഉടന്‍ ചെയ്യേണ്ട കാര്യമാണ്. ഭക്തിപ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ അതിരുവിട്ടാല്‍ യേശുവിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്രയ്ക്ക് തടസ്സവും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ മുഖം മറയുകയും ചെയ്യും. മാര്‍പാപ്പയുടെ ശ്ലൈഹിക പ്രബോധനം സഭയുടെ ബൗധിക തലങ്ങളിലെങ്കിലും ആത്മാര്‍ത്ഥമായി ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടാല്‍ നന്നായിരുന്നു. അത് സഭയുടെ നവീകരണത്തിനുള്ള വലിയ സംരംഭവമായി മാറുകതന്നെ ചെയ്യും.

Engage With the Community

Knannaites are bonded together with the single magic word Kna, which has a deep sense of community belonging and has centuries old history.  If our customs and traditions needs sustainability, then UKKCA need to engage with its members, not only members but their children as well. UKKCA leadership should find sufficient time  to develop more programs and keep the members engaged. Our next generation should have the opportunity to experience quality programs within UKKCA, which will provide them the same community bonding. Eventhough Knannaites comes under one banner, they are all different, they all have multiple interests and talents, which we need to promote through multiple activities and keep them engaged.

The recent UKKCA Badminton tournament is a good example, many of them participated not only to win the game but to share their community commitments. To share their love for the community, to meet with other members and to share their skills.  The Badminton committee members demonstrated their excellent organisational skills by completing the tournament as scheduled, they truly deserve high level of appreciation, hopefully the executive committee acknowledged it in some form. Also this was another example of  our community member’s skills and abilities to efficiently deliver  quality programs. The Mayor’s participation reflects our respect for the administrative system and our intention and capabilities to integrate with the existing community.

Comparing to last year, most of the participants improved their badminton skills and the quality of the game was excellent, it’s very encouraging to see our community members performing to professional level. New participants had the opportunity to  experience this high quality and many of them are now looking forward to improve their own skills, in order to compete better in coming years. Introducing new mixed doubles was also praiseworthy, now we need to attract our children and the ever vibrant teenagers to this game.  

To keep the community engaged, the government funding agencies support these kinds of recreational activities, Sport England is one of these agency, which  provide sufficient funds, to book venue, to purchase shuttles, to purchase trophies and to provide refreshments. Application procedures are very simple and available online, could be completed without much efforts. Being a national registered voluntary organisation, we are eligible to apply for all kinds of funds from Government and other charitable funding agencies. Obtaining these funds could potentially remove the current high registration fees and offer these games free of cost to members. Now we need committed leaders, who have knowledge, can spare time and are willing to prepare these applications along with supporting documents.

Communicate with Members

For an organisation looking forward to make a lasting impact, it needs ambition, the drive to achieve long-term change with realistic, achievable targets, the potential to grow, replicate or expand, the potential to improve results and deliver results, the potential to influence other organisations or have a wider impact on the bigger society,  and finally an able leadership  willing and facilitate change.

These are not unrealistic quotes,  but practical approaches, applicable to all associations like UKKCA, could be achieved easily with members active participation. Leadership needs to promote and support the members, and for that should initiate effective communication with members, a two way communication to listen and to respond.

UK Knannaites prefer to communicate each other, they have a variety of things to share, their happiness, achievements, celebrations, ideas, opinions and most importantly enthusiastic  to hear from others and to see their achievements. UKKCA should facilitate this and need to connect all members through a medium, which will keep the community in front of each member’s mind and reminds them that there is value in the community.

REGULAR NEWSLETTERS

An ideal medium to exchange information within a recognised group, it could be in any form printed or electronic as per members choice A news letter include all kinds of topics, announcements,  information, discussion groups, advertisements and links to helpful areas that we may need for our daily life. Regular news letter is a medium for two way communication, to exchange ideas within units, obtain opinions and  feedback from members and to develop a culture of  on-going discussions.

Additional benefits : In this developed world where Twitter, Facebook and other on-line discussion forums  rule, few of us may  think old fashioned news letters may not be an ideal approach, but still regular news letter has greater importance :

(a) In- Depth Information :  Most of the web pages have limited characters and could only accommodate  brief sentences, where as a well-written newsletter, even just four pages---can share your association's work, success, needs, or vision in much greater depth. Anytime a  newsletter can expand to provide all the room you have content for, and with that extended length comes a much greater opportunity to persuade your readers to choose their choice.

(b) More Relaxed Approach  : Newsletters enjoy a distinct advantage over online communication in a more relaxed touch. While a tweet or blog update can be read only with a computer, Blackberry or iPhone handy, the newsletter comes in the mail (electronic or printed) almost like a gift. Mail is enjoyed in the comfortable, relaxed environment at  home during leisure time rather than getting lost in the cacophony of "urgent" tweets, texts, updates or emails.

(c) Direct information or the reminder factor : With a newsletter you are going to the members or readers rather than members searching for you (many never will), it goes directly to them, your readers don't have to be thinking about you, before that you can communicate with them, just like a phone call from an old friend.

(d) Where No Tweet Has Gone Before : Newsletters have a stealthy means of travel. While tweets can be forwarded or bookmarked blogs can be emailed or forwarded, an attractive newsletter that passes from one hand to another is your most powerful form of conveying the message accurately And a newsletter also has legs to go where no tweet has gone before, into break rooms, waiting rooms, hotels, libraries and a copy in your car will be an added advantage.

Community Committed

To create an impact within it’s members, all community organisations should offer variety of activities, it could be from numeracy/language classes to dance groups to advocacy services within any particular locality based association. But it’s far beyond for a national umbrella organisation like UKKCA, it should have multiple activities at the national level and also at the unit level. Government mechanism and the well established volunteer sector in UK regularly promote community organisations for nation building and for citizen empowerment. UKKCA could always utilize these wide opportunities by effectively representing  its members and request funds from national funding agencies like Sports England, Arts England, Big Lottery and other donor charities. This could be for anything, own activities at the national level and also at the unit level, especially when there are high number of children and youth involved to  our various activities/programs.

Funding charities recently stated that they are not receiving sufficient quality and competitive funding programs or requests from community organisations within UK and to attract community associations they regularly promote their activities through workshops and seminars at a number of places around UK. Committed community leaders, interested to develop their community members and their organisation could easily find time to attend these sessions. There are multiple benefits to the individuals and the organisation attending these sessions, they will increase their personal and networking skills along with promoting their organisation at national and international level. Selfless and sincere leaders with an attitude to learn, promote, develop  and implement social change is needed for all associations.

Even though UKKCA is a national registered charity, it’s quiet different from other well established charities, as these charities operate by identifying the issue they are concerned about, then working out how best to tackle it. Community organisations like UKKCA are different, they know where they want to operate, but they do not always know which issue they should tackle. Community organisations need to add extra efforts for identifying the needs of its members and that’s the reason when these community organisations are registered as national charities, general objectives are developed in line with the current needs and for future needs.

UKKCA's all previous activity based objectives were short term focussed, but was incorporated to the more generalised objectives on the advise of Charity Commission. These generalised long term objectives would provide sufficient opportunities for the leadership to develop and implement any programs for all members needs, without any constitutional restrictions.

 The current objectives of UKKCA as a registered charity is as follows :

(1) The advancement of the Christian religion in accordance with the tenets of the (Knanaya) Catholic Church

(2) The advancement of education, in particular but not restricted to the area of family unity and development.

(3) The relief of those in social or economic need by the advancement of any other charitable purpose, with a view to, in particular but not restricted to, the fulfilment of social and welfare needs.

UKKCA is the first national level organisation within the Malayalee community in UK, and quiet recently many other cultural and spiritual associations are being developed which are now functioning in a better way. If UKKCA to keep the lead, then its time to develop more people oriented programs in addition to the traditional annual programs. It’s very important for us to keep our flocks together in this ever changing world, as without members no community or association could survive.

ആശാകിരണങ്ങള്‍ - സ്റ്റീഫന്‍ തോട്ടനാനി

അഴിമതി ഇന്ന് ജനജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ലോകത്തിലെല്ലായിടത്തും  വിളയാടുന്നു.  മതങ്ങള്‍ പോലും അതില്‍നിന്നു വിമുക്തരല്ല. സാത്താന്‍ മതനേതാക്കളെ പോലും കീഴ്‌പ്പെടുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നുതന്നെ കരുതേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

അഴിമതിയില്‍ നിന്ന് ഇനി മുക്തിയില്ലായെന്നു കരുതി നിരാശയോടെയാണെങ്കില്‍ പോലും അഴിമതി നിറഞ്ഞ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളുമായി പൊരുത്തപ്പെട്ടു മുന്‍പോട്ടു പോകുവാന്‍ മനസ്സിനെ പലരും മെരുക്കിയെടുത്തു കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. എങ്കിലും മറ്റുചിലര്‍ നിശ്ചയദാര്‍ഡിയത്തോടെ അതിനെതിരെ അടരാടുവാന്‍ തന്നെ തീരുമാനിച്ചു മുന്നേറുന്നത് നമുക്ക് ചുറ്റും കാണുവാന്‍ സാധിക്കുന്നു.

മതങ്ങള്‍ ഒതുക്കത്തില്‍  ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ചില്ലറ തെറ്റുകളുടെ നേരെ ഈശ്വര വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ പേരില്‍ വിശ്വാസികള്‍ പലപ്പോഴും കണ്ണടച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അതിനെ മുതലെടുത്തുകൊണ്ട്, ജനങ്ങളുടെ സാമാന്യബുദ്ധിയെ പരിഹസിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് മതാധിപരും രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരെപ്പോലെ കൈകോര്‍ത്ത് മുന്നോട്ടു നീങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ പലരുടെയും ശുഭാപ്തിവിശ്വാസം അസ്തമിച്ചു. ദൈവവിശ്വാസം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും മതങ്ങളിലുള്ള പലരുടെയും വിശ്വാസത്തിനു കോട്ടം സംഭവിച്ചു. തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തികള്‍ ആണ് അതിനുള്ള കാരണമെന്നത് സമ്മതിക്കാന്‍ കൂട്ടാക്കാതെ മതനേതാക്കള്‍ മറ്റുള്ളവരില്‍ പഴിചാരി മുന്‍പോട്ടു തന്നെ പോകുന്നു.

സാഷാല്‍ ഈശ്വരന്‍ വിചാരിച്ചാല്‍ പോലും ഈ ലോകം നന്നാക്കുവാന്‍ സാധിക്കില്ല എന്ന നിലയിലേയ്ക്ക് ജനങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്വാസം  അധപ്പതിച്ചപ്പോഴാണ് ആശയുടെ കിരണങ്ങളുമായി ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പയുടെ കടന്നുവരവ്! സഭയിലും വത്തിക്കാനിലും അഴിഞ്ഞാടുന്ന അതിക്രമങ്ങള്‍ പലതും മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ പറയുമ്പോളാണ് വിശ്വാസികള്‍ പലരും അറിയുന്നത് തന്നെ.  മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ നേരിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് പോലും അത് വിശ്വസിക്കാന്‍ വിശ്വാസികളില്‍ പലരും മടിക്കുന്നു.  നമ്മുടെ സഭാധികാരികള്‍ അങ്ങിനെ ചെയ്യുമോ? അഥവാ അങ്ങിനെ ചെയ്താല്‍ തന്നെ അത് സഭയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടിയല്ലേ, ദൈവത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയല്ലേ, അതുകൊണ്ട് സഭാധികാരികള്‍ തെറ്റ് ചെയ്താല്‍ പോലും അതിനു കുഴപ്പമില്ല എന്ന വിധത്തിലാണ് വിശ്വാസികളുടെ മനസ്സിനെ മതങ്ങള്‍ സ്വാധീനിച്ചു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് തന്നെ. അത്രക്കും രൂഡമാണ് ചിലരുടെ വിശ്വാസം. ദൈവത്തെക്കാള്‍, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ദൈവപ്രമാണങ്ങളെക്കാള്‍ വിശ്വാസം മതനേതാക്കള്‍ക്ക് കൊടുക്കുന്നതിലെ ആപത്തിനെപ്പറ്റി ജനങ്ങള്‍ ബോധവാന്മാരാകേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു! വിശ്വാസികള്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്വാസത്തെ പുനര്‍ചിന്തനം ചെയ്യേണ്ട സമയം അതിക്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പയുടെ ഈ തിരുത്തല്‍വാദം, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ വെട്ടിനിരത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവാപായത്തില്‍ കലാശിച്ചേക്കുമെന്നുപോലും പലരും ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. അധികാരത്തിനുവേണ്ടി എന്തും ചെയ്യുവാന്‍ പലരും മടിക്കില്ലാത്ത കാലമാണ് ഇത്. എന്നാല്‍ അത് തെല്ലും വകവയ്ക്കാതെ തന്റെ ശുദ്ധികലശവുമായിത്തന്നെ മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ മുന്നേറുന്നത്  അവിശ്വാസിക്കും വിശ്വാസിക്കും  ഒരുപോലെ പുത്തന്‍ ഉണര്‍വേകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

ജനങ്ങളുടെ ഈശ്വരവിശ്വാസവും അധ്വാനഫലവും ചൂഷണം ചെയ്ത് മണിമാളികകള്‍ക്കും ആഡംബര ജീവിതങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമായി ധൂര്‍ത്തടിച്ചതിനാണ് മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ ഒരു ജര്മ്മന്‍ ബിഷപ്പിനെ അടുത്തനാള്‍ പുറത്താക്കിയത്. നമുക്കിടയിലും സംഭവിക്കുന്നത് ആ ധൂര്‍ത്ത് തന്നെയാണ്. വിശ്വാസികളുടെയും അശരണരുടെയും ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ സംരഷിക്കുവാന്‍ നിയുക്തരായ സഭാധികാരികള്‍ നേര്‍വഴിവിട്ടു വളരെ ദൂരെ പോയിരിക്കുന്നു. സഭ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന ഈ വിശ്വാസവര്‍ഷത്തിന്റെ അന്തിമഘട്ടത്തിലെങ്കിലും തങ്ങളുടെ പാളിച്ചകള്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കി നേര്‍വഴിയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചെത്തുവാനുള്ള ഈ അവസരം നമ്മുടെ  സഭാധികാരികള്‍ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തുമെന്ന് പ്രതീഷിക്കാം.

സ്വാര്‍ഥതയും അഴിമതിയും കൊടികുത്തിവാണ് ജനങ്ങള്‍ നിരാശയുടെ പടുകുഴിയില്‍ നിപതിക്കുമ്പോളും ആശയുടെ നാമ്പുകള്‍ അവിടെയും ഇവിടെയും തലപൊക്കുന്നത് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചാല്‍ നമുക്ക് കാണുവാന്‍ സാധിക്കും. മനംമടുത്ത ജനങ്ങള്‍ പ്രതികരിച്ചപ്പോളാണ് പല രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ധൂര്‍ത്തരായ ഭരണാധികാരികള്‍ സ്ഥാനഭ്രഷ്ടരാക്കപെട്ടത് .

ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ അഴിമതിക്കെതിരെ അണ്ണാ ഹസാരെ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ സാധാരണക്കാര്‍ സന്തോഷിച്ചു പിന്നാലെ കൂടി. എന്നാല്‍ അവരുടെ സന്തോഷത്തിനു അല്പായുസേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. അഴിമതി നിര്‍മാര്‍ജ്ജനം ചെയ്യുവാന്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന നിയമങ്ങളും മാര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളും കറപുരണ്ട ഭരണകര്‍ത്താക്കള്‍ കുതന്ത്രങ്ങളിലൂടെ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തു. അധര്‍മ്മത്തിന്റെയും, അധികാരത്തിന്റെയും കുതികാല്‍വെട്ടിന്റെയും, പണത്തിന്റെയും കോട്ടയെ തകര്‍ക്കുവാന്‍ ഹസ്സാരെയ്ക്കും കൂട്ടര്‍ക്കും സാധിച്ചില്ല.

തോല്‍വിയില്‍ മനംമടുക്കാതെ ഹസ്സാരെക്കൊപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന അരവിന്ദ് കേജറിവാള്‍ പുതിയൊരു ആയുധവുമായി രംഗത്ത് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു!  അഴിമതികറ പുരളാത്ത, കഴിവുള്ള സാധാരണ ജനങ്ങളെ നേതാക്കളാക്കി ഉയര്‍ത്തി അഴിമതികറപൂണ്ട നേതാക്കള്‍ക്കെതിരെ മത്സരരംഗത്ത് ഇറക്കിയാണ് പോരാട്ടം! കറപുരളാത്ത നേതാക്കള്‍ എന്ന ആദര്‍ശവുമായിട്ടാണ് കേജറിവാളിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള സാധാരണക്കാരന്റെ പാര്‍ടിയെന്ന AAP(Am Admi Party)യുടെ പിറവി. ആദര്‍ശങ്ങളുമായി കോളിളക്കമുണ്ടാക്കി രംഗത്ത് വരുന്ന നമ്മുടെ നേതാക്കളെ നിമിഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുള്ളില്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ കീശക്കുള്ളിലാക്കുന്ന അധികാരികള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ കേജറിവാളിന്റെ പാര്‍ട്ടിയിലെ സ്ഥാനാര്തികള്‍ക്ക് എത്ര നാളത്തെ ആയുസ്സ് ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന് കണ്ടറിയേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നുവരികിലും മുങ്ങിചാകുന്നവന് വൈക്കോല്‍തുരുമ്പും ആശ്വാസം എന്നപോലെ മനം മടുത്ത ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് AAP നേരിയ ആശ പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

കുത്തകരാഷ്ട്രീയ പാര്‍ടികള്‍ നിര്‍ത്തുന്ന അതികായരോട് മത്സരിക്കുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടിയുള്ള AAP സ്ഥാനാര്തികള്‍ കറ പുരളാത്തവരാണെന്ന് പല വിധത്തില്‍ ഉറപ്പു വരുത്തിയ ശേഷമാണ് ഗോദായില്‍ ഇറക്കുന്നത് പോലും! ഈ ആദര്‍ശങ്ങളാല്‍ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കപെട്ട സാധാരണക്കാരും, പ്രബുദ്ധരായ അഭ്യസ്തവിദ്യരും  AAPയുടെ പിന്നില്‍ അണിനിരക്കുന്നു. ഇലക്ക്ഷനുവേണ്ടി പണം വാരി വിതറുവാനില്ലാത്ത പാര്‍ട്ടിക്കുവേണ്ടി സാധാരണക്കാര്‍ സ്വന്തം പണം മുടക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറായി മുന്‍പോട്ടു വരുന്നു.

ഹസ്സാരെയെ ഒതുക്കിയ ധിക്കാരത്തോടെ, കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന്റെയും, ബിജെപിയുടെയും നേതാക്കള്‍ വളരെ ലാഘവത്തോടെ പുഛിച്ചു തള്ളിയ AAP ഒരു വര്‍ഷത്തിനുള്ളില്‍തന്നെ കുത്തക രാഷ്ട്രീയപാര്‍ട്ടികളുടെ ഉറക്കം കെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു! ജയം ഉറപ്പു വരുത്തുവാന്‍വേണ്ടി AAP-യുടെ കറ പുരളാത്ത നേതാക്കള്‍ക്കെതിരെ അണിനിരത്തുവാന്‍ സ്വന്തം പാര്‍ട്ടിക്കുള്ളില്‍ കറയില്ലാത്ത നേതാക്കളെ തപ്പി വലിയ പാര്‍ടികള്‍ നെട്ടോട്ടം ഓടുന്നത് കൗതുകകരം തന്നെ. ഡിസംബര്‍ 4-നു നടക്കുന്ന ഡല്‍ഹി അസ്സംബ്ലി ഇലക്ക്ഷന്‍ ഒരു മാറ്റത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കമാവാം.

വാതിലുകള്‍ അടയുമ്പോള്‍ ദൈവം ഏതെങ്കിലും ജനാലകള്‍ തുറന്നുതരും എന്നതുപോലെ തങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള അഴിമതിമൂലം നിരാശയുടെ പടുകുഴിയില്‍ പതിച്ച ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ആശയുടെ കിരണങ്ങളുമായി കറപുരളാത്ത നേതാക്കളെ ദൈവം അണിനിരത്തുന്നു എന്ന് വേണം അനുമാനിക്കാന്‍! ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് മാര്പാപ്പയ്‌ക്കൊപ്പം അനീതിക്കെതിരെ ധീരതയോടെ മുന്‍പോട്ടു വരുവാന്‍ വേണ്ട ധൈര്യം ഈ അവസരത്തില്‍ പരിശുദ്ധാല്മാവിലൂടെ ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ലഭിക്കുമെന്ന് കരുതാം. ആദര്‍ശങ്ങളെ കീഴടക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്റെ സ്വാര്‍ഥതയെന്ന ദൗര്‍ബല്യം ജനങ്ങളുടെ  ആശയുടെ കിരണങ്ങളെ അണയ്ക്കാതിരിക്കട്ടെ.

വംശഹത്യ മഹാപാപം – ടോമി ജോസഫ്‌ കല്ലുപുരയ്ക്കല്‍

ജര്‍മ്മനിയിലെ ഏകാധിപതിയായിരുന്ന അഡോള്‍ഫ് ഹിറ്റ്‌ലര്‍ തന്റെ ഭ്രാന്തമായ വംശീയപകമൂലം 60 ലക്ഷം യഹൂദരെയാണ് കൊന്നൊടുക്കിയത്. ഒടുവില്‍ അനിവാര്യമായ അന്ത്യം തന്നെ ഹിറ്റ്‌ലര്‍ക്ക് സംഭവിച്ചു. പിടിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കാനാകാതെ അയാള്‍ ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തു.

ഹിറ്റ്‌ലറെ പേടിച്ച് കപ്പലില്‍ രക്ഷപെട്ടു റോമില്‍ എത്തിച്ചേര്‍ന്ന ഒരു സംഘം അഭയാര്‍ത്ഥികളോട് അന്നത്തെ മാര്‍പാപ്പയായിരുന്ന പീയൂസ് പന്ത്രണ്ടാമന്‍ പറഞ്ഞതിപ്രകാരമാണ്: “ധൈര്യമായിരിക്കുക, ഒരു യഹൂദനായിരിക്കുന്നതില്‍ അഭിമാനിക്കുക.” 1944 ഏപ്രില്‍ 28 ന് 'യൂദ്ധകാലത്തെ ഒരു പേപ്പല്‍ കൂടിക്കാഴ്ച' എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഒരു രേഖയാണിത്.

ക്‌നാനായക്കാര്‍ ഒരു വംശസമൂഹമാണ്. ഈ യഹൂദ-ക്രൈസ്തവ വംശത്തിന്റെ 16 നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായുള്ള ക്രൈസ്തവ സാക്ഷ്യത്തിന്റെയും സഭാസേവനത്തിന്റെയും അംഗീകാരമായാണ് വി. പത്താം പീയൂസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പ ക്‌നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കര്‍ക്കായി 1911-ല്‍ കോട്ടയം വികാരിയത്ത് അനുവദിച്ചത്. വികാരിയത്ത് രൂപതയായി, രൂപത ഇന്ന് അതിരൂപതയായി ഉയര്‍ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്‌നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കരുടെ ഈ സഭാഘടനകളൊന്നും മാര്‍പാപ്പമാര്‍ അറിയാതെയാണ് സംഭവിച്ചതെന്നാണ് സീറോമലബാര്‍ സഭയിലെ ചില മെത്രാന്മാരുടെ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍.

വംശീയതയെ സഭ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നാണ് ഇവര്‍ പറയുന്നത്. സഭ എന്നാല്‍ സീറോമലബാറിലെ ഒരു വിഭാഗം എന്നാണ് നിര്‍വ്വചനമെങ്കില്‍ അത് നാം അഗീകരിക്കേണ്ടിവരും. എന്നാല്‍ സഭയുടെ പരമാധികാരിയായ മാര്‍പാപ്പമാര്‍ വംശീയതയെയും അതിന്റെ സംരക്ഷണത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് എത്രമാത്രം ഉത്തരവാദിത്വത്തോടെയാണ് സംസാരിക്കുകയും പ്രബോധിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളതെന്ന് നോക്കുക. ജോണ്‍ പോള്‍ രണ്ടാമന്‍ മാര്‍പാപ്പ വംശീയതയെപ്പറ്റി നടത്തിയ ഒരു പരാമര്‍ശനം ഇങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു: “മനുഷ്യവംശനശീകരണം അനീതിയും അക്രൈസ്തവവുമാണ്. പല വംശീയസമൂഹങ്ങളും പല കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിലായി രൂപീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട വിവിധ സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളും മനുഷ്യവംശത്തിന്റെ പൊതുസമ്പത്താണ്.  അതുകൊണ്ട് നമ്മില്‍ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തങ്ങളായ സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളെ ശത്രുതയോടും അവജ്ഞയോടും കൂടി കാണുന്നത് തെറ്റാണ്.” (1996 സെപ്റ്റംബറില്‍ വത്തിക്കാനിലെത്തിയ ഹങ്കേറിയന്‍ പഠനസംഘത്തോട് മാര്‍പാപ്പ നടത്തിയ പ്രസംഗത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്) മാര്‍ത്തോമ്മായുടെ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗവും വഴിപാടുമല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു സംസ്‌ക്കാരത്തെയും വെച്ചു പൊറുപ്പിക്കില്ലാ എന്നു നിശ്ചയമെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കുള്ള ഒരു മറുപടികൂടിയാണിത്.

    

വിവിധങ്ങളായ സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും വംശവഴികളില്‍ നിന്നുമാണ് സഭാസമൂഹങ്ങള്‍ രൂപം കൊള്ളുന്നത്. അതിനാലാണ് കത്തോലിക്കാസഭ 23 വ്യത്യസ്തങ്ങളായ സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളെ ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളുന്ന സഭകളുടെ ഒരു കൂട്ടായ്മയായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നത്.

    

യഹൂദ കൂട്ടക്കൊലയില്‍ നിന്നും രക്ഷപെട്ട എന്‍സാ കാമേരിനേ എന്ന യഹൂദന്‍ ഫ്രാന്‍സീസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പയുടെ ചാപ്പലില്‍ 2013 ഒക്‌ടോബര്‍ 16 നുള്ള കുര്‍ബ്ബാനയില്‍ സംബന്ധിച്ചിരുന്നു. യഹൂദസമൂഹം നാടുകടത്തപ്പെട്ടതിന്റെ 70-ാം വാര്‍ഷീകദിനമായിരുന്നു അന്ന്. പരി. പിതാവ് പ്രസ്തുത സംഭവത്തിന്റെ അനുസ്മരണത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നല്‍കിയ സന്ദേശത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്: “എല്ലാ മനുഷ്യരുടെയും ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ നിന്നും വംശീയമായ എതിര്‍പ്പ് നിഷ്‌ക്കാസനം ചെയ്യണം. സ്വന്തം വംശത്തെ സ്‌നേഹിക്കുന്നവന് മാത്രമേ മറ്റ് സമൂഹങ്ങളെ സ്‌നേഹിക്കാനാകൂ.” തന്ത്രങ്ങളും ഗൂഢാലോചനകളും കൊണ്ട് വംശീയ വിദ്വേഷം സൃഷ്ടിച്ച് ആരെയും ഇല്ലായ്മ ചെയ്യരുതെന്ന് ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

    

മനുഷ്യാവകാശങ്ങള്‍ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര യഹൂദസംഘടനയായ സൈമണ്‍ വിസെന്താള്‍ സെന്ററിന്റെ പ്രതിനിധി സംഘത്തെ അഭിസംബോധന ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് ഫ്രാന്‍സീസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പ ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: “എവിടെയൊക്കെ ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങളും പാര്‍ശ്വവല്‍ക്കരിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരും അവരുടെ മതപരമായ ബോധ്യത്തിന്റെ പേരിലോ വംശീയ വ്യക്തിത്വത്തിന്റെ പേരിലോ നിരന്തരം പീഢിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുമ്പോള്‍ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ മുഴുവന്‍ സുസ്ഥിതിയും അപകടത്തില്‍ ആകുന്നു എന്നും നമ്മെ ഓരോരുത്തരെയും അത് ബാധിക്കുന്നതായി അനുഭവപ്പെടുകയും വേണം.” (ഒസ്സെര്‍വത്തോരെ റൊമാനോ 2013 നവംബര്‍ 8).

    

ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെ ഫരീദാബാദ് രൂപതയ്ക്ക് കീഴിലുള്ള ക്‌നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ വംശീയ വ്യക്തിത്വത്തിന്റെ പേരില്‍ സീറോമലബാര്‍ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ നിന്നും പീഡനങ്ങള്‍ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന അവസരത്തില്‍ തന്നെയാണ് ഫ്രാന്‍സീസ് മാര്‍പാപ്പയുടെ മുകളില്‍ പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന ഓര്‍മ്മപ്പെടുത്തലുകള്‍ എന്നത് യാദൃശ്ചികമെന്ന് പറയുക വയ്യ.

    

കത്തോലിക്കാ-യഹൂദ ലൈസോണ്‍ കമ്മറ്റിയുടെ സംയുക്ത പ്രസ്താവനയില്‍ പറയുന്നു: “ലോകത്ത് എവിടെയെങ്കിലും ക്രൈസ്തവന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ പീഢിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സാഹചര്യമുണ്ടായാല്‍ യഹൂദരും ക്രൈസ്തവരും യോജിച്ചു പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കണം.” (ഒസ്സെര്‍: റൊമാനോ, 2013 നവംബര്‍ 1) നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യമെന്നു പറയട്ടെ, ക്‌നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കര്‍ പീഢിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത് സീറോമലബാര്‍ സഭയില്‍ നിന്നുമാണ്. അതിന്റെ പ്രഭവകേന്ദ്രം കാക്കനാടാണ്. മാര്‍പാപ്പയെ അനുസരിക്കാന്‍ ബാധ്യതയുള്ള ബിഷപ്പുമാരില്‍ നിന്നുതന്നെ ഇപ്രകാരമുള്ള അനുഭവങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത് വളരെ നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യകരമാണ്.

    

കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന യഹൂദക്രൈസ്തവരുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മയാണ് ഹെബ്രായ കത്തോലിക്കാ അസോസിയേഷന്‍. അവര്‍ സഭാകൂട്ടായ്മ ആചരിക്കുന്നത് ഈ അസോസിയേഷന്‍ വഴിയാണ്. പ്രസ്തുത സംഘടനയുടെ 1997 കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിലെ പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്ന ഡേവിഡ് മോസസ് ഒരു പത്രസമ്മേളനം നടത്തി തങ്ങളുടെ സഭാപരമായ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകള്‍ സഭാതലത്തിലും സമൂഹമദ്ധ്യത്തിലും അവര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വാക്കുകളില്‍ നിന്നും: “കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയില്‍ ചേരുന്ന മഹാഭൂരിപക്ഷം യഹൂദരും ഏതാണ്ട് അപ്രത്യക്ഷമാകുകയാണ്. അങ്ങനെ അവരുടെ യഹൂദപൈതൃകം നഷ്ടമാകുന്നു. അവര്‍ യഹൂദരായി തുടരും. പക്ഷേ, മക്കള്‍ക്ക് അത് കൈമാറാനാകുന്നില്ല. ഇല്ലായ്മ ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നു എന്ന ഭയം ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്കുണ്ട്. ഒന്ന് അക്രമത്തിലൂടെ, അതാണ് നാസികൂട്ടക്കൊല. മറ്റൊന്ന് ആഗീരണത്തിലൂടെ, ഈ രണ്ടാമത്തേത് സഭയിലൂടെ നടക്കുന്നു.”

    

ഹെബ്രായ കത്തോലിക്കാ അസോസിയേഷന്‍ അവരുടെ ഉത്കണ്ഠകള്‍ പ്രാദേശിക സഭാ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ വഴി വത്തിക്കാനിലെത്തിച്ചതിന്റെ ഫലമായി ഇവരുടെ സഭാപരമായ അവകാശങ്ങള്‍ പരിരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനായി 2003-ല്‍ ജോണ്‍പോള്‍ രണ്ടാമന്‍ മാര്‍പാപ്പ യഹൂദ മാതാപിതാക്കന്മാര്‍ക്ക് ജനിച്ച ഷാന്‍-മാരിഗോറി എന്ന വൈദികനെ അവരുടെ ബിഷപ്പായി നിയമിച്ചു. ലത്തീന്‍ പാത്രിയര്‍ക്കീസായിരുന്ന മൈക്കിള്‍ സബ്ബായായിരുന്നു ഇതിനായി പരിശ്രമിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഇന്നവര്‍ ഹെബ്രായ റീത്തിനായി പരിശ്രമിക്കുന്നതായി അറിയുന്നു. കത്തോലിക്കാ ലോകത്തു വംശീയത കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന കത്തോലിക്കാ വിഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കായുള്ള അംഗീകാരങ്ങളെ സീറോമലബാര്‍ അധികാരികള്‍ കണ്ടില്ലെന്നു നടിക്കുന്നത് സങ്കടകരവും അതിലേറെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഗതികേടുമാണ്.

ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെ ഫരീദാബാദ് രൂപതയില്‍ ക്‌നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കര്‍ക്ക് തനതായ ഇടവകകള്‍ അനുവദിക്കുന്നതിനോ പിഞ്ചുകുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ആദ്യകുര്‍ബ്ബാന നല്‍കുന്നതിനോ മാര്‍ കുര്യാക്കോസ് ഭരണികുളങ്ങര പിതാവിന് എതിര്‍പ്പുണ്ടാകേണ്ട കാര്യമില്ല എന്നാണ് ഞങ്ങള്‍ കരുതുന്നത്. വത്തിക്കാന്റെ നയതന്ത്രവിഭാഗത്തില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന പിതാവിന് അനേക രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ വ്യത്യസ്ത സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളുമായി സംവദിക്കുന്നതിന് അവസരമുണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്‌നാനായക്കാരോട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വിരോധമുണ്ടാകേണ്ട ഒരു കാര്യവുമില്ല. മനസ്സുകൊണ്ട് ക്‌നാനായക്കാരെ സ്‌നേഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു ബിഷപ്പാണദ്ദേഹം. പക്ഷേ, ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നീതി നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. രൂപതയുടെ അധികാരി ബിഷപ്പാണ്. സ്വഭാവികമായി രോഷമെല്ലാം അവിടേക്ക് ഒഴുകും. ഈ രോഷത്തില്‍ സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നത് മറ്റു ചിലരാണ്. പിതാവിന്റെ തന്നെ കൂരിയായിലുള്ളവര്‍. അവര്‍ കാശ്മീരും ലഡാക്കും സൃഷ്ടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും സ്വസ്ഥത നശിപ്പിക്കാനായി.

ഡല്‍ഹി മെത്രാന്‍ പദവി ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി ആത്മാര്‍ത്ഥമായി തന്നെ പണിയെടുത്ത ഒരാള്‍ ഫരീദാബാദ് രൂപതാ കൂരിയായില്‍ ഉന്നതനായുണ്ട്. ഭരണികുളങ്ങര പിതാവ് ഈസിയായി രൂപതാഭരണം നടത്തുവാന്‍ മനസുവളര്‍ന്നിട്ടില്ലാത്ത അദ്ദേഹം സമ്മതിക്കില്ല. അദ്ദേഹവും സിനഡിലെ ക്‌നാനായ വിരോധികളായ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കണ്‍സോഷ്യവുമാണ് എല്ലാ അസ്വസ്ഥതകള്‍ക്കും പിന്നില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നത്. ഭാരതത്തിന്റെ സിരാകേന്ദ്രത്തില്‍ ഒരു കത്തോലിക്കാ മെത്രാനാകുവാന്‍ എന്തുകൊണ്ടും മാര്‍ കുര്യാക്കോസ് ഭരണികുളങ്ങര യോഗ്യനാണ്. രൂപതയുടെ ഭാവിസംബന്ധിച്ച ദൈവികപദ്ധതി മുന്‍കൂട്ടി മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ കൂരിയായിലുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് കഴിയുന്നില്ല.

ഓരോ വിഭാഗത്തെയും അവരവര്‍ ആയിരിക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നതിന് അധികാരപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ തടസ്സം നില്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍, ഒരു സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ വളര്‍ച്ചയാണ് തടയുന്നതെന്ന് നാം തിരിച്ചറിയണം. ക്‌നാനായ സമുദായത്തെ ആഗീരണം നടത്തിയും മറ്റ് വിഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ ലയിപ്പിച്ചും ഇല്ലായ്മ ചെയ്യാം എന്ന ചിന്ത ക്രൈസ്തവമല്ല. പൊതു സമൂഹത്തിന് മുന്‍പില്‍ സീറോമലബാര്‍ സഭ എന്നും മാതൃകാപരമായി നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നത് കാണുവാനാണ് ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്കാഗ്രഹം. സംയമനം കീഴടങ്ങലായി ആര്‍ക്കും തോന്നുകയില്ലായെങ്കില്‍ അതിന് അര്‍ഹിക്കുന്ന അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കാന്‍ സഭാനേതൃത്വം തയ്യാറാകണം.
